Karen and Pastor Giovanni |
We have had a new pastor at the Rock for 9 months now.
Pastor Giovanni has done a great job getting to know the church and reaching
out to the community. He has a wife, Cindy, who helps with the kids on Sunday
mornings. They have 2 kids, Karen and Samuel. Karen was actually one of Jenny’s
students 4 years ago, and is a big help with translating. With your help and
the help of a team from Pennsylvania we were able to bless Giovanni and his
family with a car, which was a huge need! They are expecting their third child,
a girl, this fall!
This team season we were able to do a lot of evangelism and
construction work. The last team helped to build a room above the kitchen to
have a full time guard at the church. This is important as we continue to grow
and be blessed by God’s provisions.

The school year is going fast! Its hard to believe in
November they will finish another year of school. When we go to the States this
fall, we will be collecting school supplies and clothes for the kids in the
school and church. We are excited that our Saturday morning English teachers
are going to organize a shoe drive!

the Independence Day parade |
September 15 is Honduran Independence Day, so all throughout
the month the country celebrates patriotism. This past Sunday, our kindergarten
students had the opportunity to march in a parade with other kindergarteners
throughout the city. As Independence Day draws nearer, the older kids march in
parades. It is a very exciting month. There were probably over 600 people and
children marching in the parade on Sunday, we were the last school in the
parade.
Finally, one of my dreams is being fulfilled! We have had
interns over the years that come and go, and teach English to the kids at the
Rock a few months at a time. We also have the help of bilingual school teachers
that volunteer on Saturday mornings to teach English to the kids in the school
and community. However, Jenny, my new wife, will be starting daily English
classes at the Rock and the kids will be exposed consistently to English. In
this way, they will be able to progress, with a consistent teacher who knows
each kids strengths and weaknesses and can work with them to learn English.
The past few Saturdays we have had evangelism outreach
events in the community and it is amazing to see God work. At one event there
were gang members sitting on top of the walls around the soccer field listening
and when the call was given, 8 guys came forward to give their lives to
Christ!! Although they didn’t “come” to the event, they sure received the
message!
